Excuse me….got a minute?

I’d like to talk to you straight from the heart.

Thank goodness you love Labs. While not all of the cases presented to
Labrador Life Line for funding assistance are urgent or life threatening, they
are all heartbreaking. Despite their best intentions, owners can’t always afford
the treatment their best friend needs to get well. These Labs (and their owners)
need some help.

Fortunately these Labs have friends like you. With your help, Labrador Life
Line assists purebred Labrador Retrievers in need of emergency care or medical
treatment whose owners or rescues have a financial need. Our help sometimes
means the difference between life and death.

If there was just one thing you could do to help these Labs in distress, you would,
wouldn’t you?

The truth is, you can.

Register now and participate in Labrador Life Line’s Heart Dog Auction.

All money raised helps Labrador Retrievers in need of medical care and treatment.

With your support, Labrador Life Line helped 70 Labs in 2012.

The auction begins February 1st and runs through February 15/16th.

To register go to:

From all the board members and the Labs we have yet to meet, a heartfelt thanks
for your continued support and participation.

Happy Holidays to all our Lablog Readers!

Thanks for your support this year. Have a safe and an enjoyable

holiday and we’ll talk in the new year.

Love and sloppy kisses,

  Wendy & Ginger

With Labor Day coming up, I got to thinking.

For most of us, Labor Day is a “bonus day,” as I like to call them. These are days when most of us (present company excluded) get to spend the whole day with our Moms and/or Dads when normally we wouldn’t be able to because they have to work.

This got me thinking about the love we share with our working Moms and Dads and the love they have for us. Even though working Moms and Dads might not have as much time to spend with us, their love is no less than those who don’t work.

Love (so I have heard) is a two-way street.

Some of us fellow dogs and Labs, like our Moms and Dads, also work.

Many of us work as Guide, Hearing, Service, and Therapy Dogs. Our “work” is to be dedicated and loyal and to help those who are sick, lonely, and helpless. Our job goes far beyond helping and making their lives easier, for we also provide them our friendship and unconditional love.

There are some of us who work (and whose work is often forgotten) on farms as herding dogs or as Livestock Guardians.

Lest we forget to mention our fellow dogs who would lay down their lives for us and our Moms and Dads. Dogs who do anything and everything asked of them and never waver. Those who guard and protect–search and rescue dogs, detection and police dogs, fire station dogs, and the military dogs of our Armed Forces.

The love working dogs share with their human companions, co-workers, fellow servicemen, and all the rest, and vice-versa, truly is a Labor of Love. See, I told you love is a two-way street. That said, what better way to give back to your loving human, or, if you are a human reading this, then to give back to your loving dog, then to participate in Labrador Life Line’s annual fundraiser the Labour of Love Auction  (quite fitting, don’t you think?)

The auction starts August 31st and runs through September 15th.

I’d like to conclude my blog with the following. The author is not known (I’d like to think it may have been a Lab, or if not a Lab, a fellow dog writer.)

Until the next time…

Love, Ginger

A Working Dog’s Oath
I will lay down my life for you
and expect nothing but love in return.
I protect my officer with my life,
and would gladly take a bullet in his place.
I am sent in to find lost children
and fugitives on the run.
I find drugs and weapons and even bombs.
I am the first sent in
and sometimes the last to leave.
I am the nose and ears of my officer.
I will protect and serve him.
I would die for him and for you.
I only ask for compassion and a kind word.

Hey…have you heard the latest “scoop” on Labrador Life Line?

On Friday, July 20th, LLL is teaming up with Erin Furman of Three Scoops of Vanilla for a very special, one day event. In honor of the event, Erin created a custom made, LLL bracelet. The bracelet will only be sold on that day ONLY. What a great way to show your support for LLL.

But, wait…who wants a second scoop?

25% of ANYTHING you buy on her site that day ONLY, goes back to LLL and will help Labrador Retrievers in need of medical care and treatment.

But, wait…who wants a third scoop?

Erin also created a couple of special pieces that will be up for auction on her Three Scoops Of Vanilla Facebook page the day of our event ONLY. EVERYONE will be able to bid on the pieces, and when the auction closes at 5:00pm MDT, the highest bidders buy the pieces from Erin. 50% of the total from these pieces goes LLL too!

Remember….mark your calendar now….Friday, JULY 20th!!!

Ho-Ho-Ho!! Because of a secret agreement we have with the big guy in the red suit we can’t tell you who we are. However, what we CAN tell you is this–on July 20th, Labrador Life Line is conducting a very special, one day event only. LLL and Erin Furman of Three Scoops of Vanilla are teaming up to offer their special friends “Christmas in July.”

On July 20th and ONLY on this day, 25% of anything you purchase on her Three Scoops of Vanilla web site will go to LLL and will help Labrador Retrievers in need of medical care and treatment. Additionally, for this special event ONLY, Erin created a custom made LLL bracelet. Not only is it a great stocking stuffer, but a great way to show your support for LLL.

But wait!! There’s more…..

Erin also created a couple of special pieces that will be up for auction on her Three Scoops Of Vanilla Facebook page the day of our event ONLY.  When the auction closes at 5:00pm MDT, the highest bidders can buy the pieces from Erin. 50% of the total from these pieces goes to LLL too!

Beware of Pupaazzi!

Hi Everyone!

For this blog, I want to talk to you about a strange occurrence that seems to come about this time of year. No, it is not the rites of spring or anything like that, but something I like to refer to as the “Return of the Puparazzi.”

For young pups (those 12 months and younger) you may have never encountered the “Puparazzi” before. In simplest terms, it is your human parent(s) putting a square-shaped box to their eye, aiming it right at you, and instructing you to “look cute and to look at mommy/daddy.” It is followed with a “click” like noise and sometimes, but not always, a blinding (though temporary) bright light.

Sightings of the puparazzi seem to increase during this time of year (but don’t be fooled, a sighting can occur at any time of the year.) Here is one thing you must never, ever, forget –being “cute” has a price and make sure you collect (whether it is a snack, bone, squeaky toy–you name it.) You earned it.

For some reason, these sightings seem to occur around the same time as the Labrador Life Line’s annual Cyber Dog Show. The last time I checked the Cyber Dog Show started on Friday and ends on June 15th–plenty of opportunities for the Puparazzi to strike–so be on your guard these next couple of weeks.

Until the next time….

Ginger

2011 Best In Show Winner

Attention all Lab owners it’s time to “snap to it.”

The annual Labrador Life Line Cyber Dog Show begins May 25th and runs through June 15th.
This highly anticipated event and fundraiser is fun for everyone– supporters and members of Labrador Life Line alike. The event allows Lab owners (and non-Lab owners) to capture their precious Labs and pooches at their best (or worst.)

A couple of years ago, the Cyber Dog Show had a record number of entries–over 200 photos! We know that we can even do better this year, but we can’t do it alone.

We need you and your pictures to make it possible.

New to this year’s show… photos entered in the Labrador Life Line Cyber Dog Show will also be considered for inclusion in Labrador Life Line’s 2013 calendar. Calendar pictures will be chosen based on those that best represent each month … the more you enter the better chance your picture will have of being selected! Please note–special rules and restrictions apply.

For more information and how to enter your photogenic Lab in Labrador Life Line’s Cyber Dog Show, click HERE.

Now start snapping!!

Did You Know that LLL’s bi-annual board meeting is coming up? I’ve written before about the unique nature of our organization (we meet online!), but it seemed like a good time this week to get into a little more detail about just how we all “come together” to manage Labrador Life Line. Why? Soon, in the next couple weeks, all of our members will be “meeting up” for one of our board meetings.

Like any non-profit (or really, any organization for that matter), we get a lot of our ideas churning and actions in motion through our board meetings. In fact, they’re required by our charter to take place at least two times a year. Generally, this happens somewhere around May 1st and November 1st, and it happens – where else? – online!

Of course, it’s not particularly fancy – the good old instant messenger provides most of our support – but it does allow us all, from our different sections of the country, to meet in   get the juices flowing about what LLL is doing successfully, what we still need, and how we can best meet the needs of our labs and their families in need.

The meeting goes a little something like this: each committee chair (that’s Triage, Fundraising, Publicity, Web, etc.) will submit a report shortly before the actual event. It’s then reviewed, and formally accepted during the meeting, where it’s voted on by the board members. Of course, this is pretty standard, but if you’ve ever been involved in a group like this, you know that it’s important. This way, all of us are on the same page about the group’s agenda, goals and where we’re at right now. It’s a great way to keep everyone involved and connected, even when literally, disconnected.

And even though we’re online, it still runs much like any other organization’s board meeting: our President takes through an agenda of items, minutes are taken, discussed and then we vote. And what do we talk about? Well, everything. This month’s topic of choice? We’re beginning the first preparations for the 2012 Cyber Show. This upcoming event is like our digital-version of a traditional dog show. Enter your dog (there are categories for Labs and non-Labs, alike!) via their photo and compete in a variety of categories: from Best Portrait to Biggest Tongue, (and don’t forget Most Extreme), there is a category for every dog to excel in. And of course, it wouldn’t be a dog show without the Best in Show. The overall winner will walk away with a whole basket of goodies, all provided by the generous donations of LLL sponsors. In fact, part of our goal at this season’s board meeting will be to start organizing this year’s show, and keep finding supporters and donors who want to help make this important fundraising event happen.

Want to know more? Stay tuned. There’s always another Did You Know right around the corner… (and expect a Post-Meeting edition wrapping up all of the high notes from this season’s board meeting)

Until next time,
